I’m Paige, a Personal Trainer at DW Fitness First and a level 3 qualified Sports Massage Therapist. I became a personal trainer after realising how much fitness helped me with my mental health and helped me learn to love my body. I decided that I wanted to make a difference in other peoples lives, I want to help everyone love their training, love themselves and learn how to eat properly for their goals. I also believe retaining mobility whilst gaining strength is hugely important, especially as we get older. I have helped so many people through sports massage, it is a great tool I use to help my clients with their mobility issues and helping them to greater understand their own body.
Unlike most personal trainers, it took me a little longer to start enjoying fitness. I was overweight as a child, which really affected my confidence and my self belief. It was only when I decided to join a gym at 18 did I really become passionate about learning about my body and what I needed to fuel it to get the most form my workouts. I also spent two years at a Crossfit box, which I loved and that is when I fell in love with weightlifting! I loved the immediate gratification of hitting a new one rep max on my back squat or bench press, it was exhilarating and gave me so much confidence; I was no longer that little chubby kid who got laughed at, my weight didn’t matter, all that mattered was the effort I put in and how much weight I could swing around on a barbell!
I personally enjoy weightlifting, I practice olympic lifts as well as general weight training. I am well versed in strength training and what it takes to achieve higher numbers on your squat, deadlift, benchpress and overhead press. I use strength training as a basis for all my clients, helping them become comfortable with different equipment and helping them realise that cardio isn’t always the key to weightloss. You have to enjoy what you do, otherwise you’re setting yourself up for failure.
